Liz Stringer and Van Walker, Heidi Luckhurst

Liz Stringer and Van Walker, two of Australia’s most respected singer songwriters come together for the first time since their latest European tour in September 2014, trading song for song in an intimate acoustic show of stories & harmony.

With a reputation for utterly captivating live shows and a string of albums already behind her, singer songwriter Liz Stringer has established herself as one of Melbourne’s most exciting and talented musicians. Described by the Herald Sun as “an old-fashioned, Springsteen-style storyteller with a soulful, mature voice”, Stringer combines intimate, complex narratives with haunting vocals to create unique contemporary roots music.

Described by the Music Australia Guide as ‘a true wordsmith’, Liz Stringer has carved out a unique place in the Australian music landscape, inspiring a passionate and loyal following around the country over a short space of time. Her latest studio album, Warm in the Darkness, was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize, and named Best Album of 2012 by Brian Wise of Rhythms Magazine and Off The Record RRR. Her previous studio albums – Soon (2006), Pendulum (2008), and Tides of Time (2010) – have also been acclaimed by peers and punters alike, showcasing Stringer’s sharp ear for a tale, swooping vocals and formidable skills on acoustic and electric guitars in both solo and full-band format.

‘Songwriting isn’t so much something Van Walker does – it’s more something that defines what he is. From the way he works at his guitar playing, the way he structures his performance, his records and his life in general – it all seems to be a means geared toward the end that is some sort of ideal of an illusive classic song. Already he has scraped far closer to this end than many could ever, or will ever hope to get; in my opinion he has already penned a number of minor classics. The only album you’ll find with a better bunch of songs on it than this is his next one.’ Mick Thomas

Having been on the road over countless Australian and now European tours, this special duo format promises to deliver an intimate and engaging showcase of top shelf songwriting and musicianship.

Local singer songwriter Heidi Luckhurst will open the night at 7.30pm.
